Ancestry & Lineage
Discover your roots—be it from land, sea, or sky.
Ancestry represents the foundation of your character’s identity—their biology, origin, and innate nature. It shapes your form, physiology, and the features you start with.
Your Ancestry‘s features determine:
- Your Character Type
- Your starting Ancestral Traits
Lineage #
Lineage refines your ancestry, representing a specific branch, subculture, or evolution path within your people. It adds flavor and additional features to help customize your character’s role and playstyle.
Your Lineage‘s features determine:
- Your Character Size
- Additional Ancestral Traits
Ancestral Features #
With your choice of ancestry and lineage comes the many qualities used to define your characteristics. These features serve to differentiate the various playstyles of each ancestry.
Unique Features #
Each Ancestry and Lineage has distinct traits that set them apart from the rest. You may gain Aptitude with certain attributes and situations, start with a special physical characteristic, and in some cases, inherit the ability to perform a unique action.
Attribute Adjustments #
Some Ancestries or Lineages may include bonuses or penalties to specific attributes. These adjustments affect an attribute’s score, permanently modifying it.
Character Size #
People come in all shapes and sizes. Your character’s size determines how much space your character occupies, their estimated weight, and their base carrying capacity.

Mixed Heritage #
As multiple peoples intermingle, individuals with mixed heritages are inevitable, and sometimes that includes mixed abilities. A character with mixed heritage presents great opportunities for character design and roleplay.
Think about how visible certain traits might be in your character’s appearance. Would a mixture of Conchovoyan and Lumian be a giant glowing snail, more humanlike with a shell on their back, or something else entirely?
The possibilities are practically endless, so have fun with them!
If you wish to play such a character, we’ve developed two approaches you and your GM can use when creating one:
Simple Mix #
When creating a Mixed Heritage, pick two ancestries you wish to mix: combine the base ancestral features from one with a lineage’s ancestral features from the other.
This approach benefits from being quick and easy to understand, but may not lead to a balanced character, depending on the combination.
Ancestral Points #
When creating a Mixed Heritage, you have a budget of 8 Ancestral Points.
You must select a character size and character type, and may spend your remaining points as you wish without exceeding your budget.
This approach benefits from being customizable and tailored, but may not be suited for newer players.
