Status Effects

From injury to fatigue, learn what it takes to rise again.

Status Effects represent conditions that alter your character’s state—sometimes beneficial, sometimes harmful. They can be imposed by actions, environmental hazards, or other circumstances throughout your journey.

Some effects have durations, some are persistent until resolved, and others require specific remedies or checks to remove.

Your vision is obstructed or impaired.

  • You cannot rely on sight, and your surroundings are Obscured to you.

You are focusing on a specific task or effect.

  • You cannot concentrate on more than one action at a time.
  • Each time you take damage, roll for Concentration, contesting a DC of 10.
  • On a failure, you drop Concentration.
  • You may drop Concentration voluntarily as a 0 AP action.

Your hands are restrained or inaccessible.

  • You cannot perform actions that use Reach, Touch, or utilize items/equipment.
  • You cannot access your Inventory.

You are knocking on death’s door.

  • At the start of your turn, you lose 10 HP.

You are brimming with energy and drive.

  • Your AP Recovery Rate is increased by +1.

You’ve been pushed beyond your limits.

  • For each level of Exhaustion, you suffer a (-1) penalty to all d20 rolls.
  • At 10 levels, you die.
  • Each Proper Rest reduces Exhaustion by 1 level.

Your movement is impeded or sluggish.

  • Each meter you move costs +1 additional meter.
  • If you are Hindered by more than one source, you become Immobilized.

Your ability to move is completely halted.

  • You cannot perform actions with the Mobility property.
  • Your Physical AC is reduced by -2.

You exist out of phase with the physical world.

  • You cannot be affected by or affect your surroundings, including attacks, interactions, conditions, or environmental effects.
  • You may move through solid objects and non-Apparitions.
  • If you stop being Intangible in an occupied space, you are shunted to the nearest unoccupied space.

You can’t shake the feeling that you are being watched.

  • The character that Marked you knows your location, regardless of visibility.
  • Their Attack Rolls against you gain a (+1d4) bonus.
  • You can be Marked by multiple creatures, but bonuses do not stack.

Your Arcane energy is suppressed.

Any feature or item labeled with a (✶) symbol is considered Arcane.

When an Arcane feature or item is affected by Nullification, its active effects and traits are suppressed, and any actions it provides cannot be performed.

A character directly affected by Nullification also affects all their held or worn Arcane items, in addition to their Arcane features and ongoing effects. Their Concentration on Arcane actions are forcefully dropped.

All suppression lasts until the target is no longer Nullified.

You are hidden from view.

  • Creatures you are Obscured to cannot see you naturally.
  • You gain Advantage on Attack Rolls against targets you can see who cannot see you.
  • Once Revealed, you are no longer Obscured.

You’ve lost your voice.

  • You are unable to speak or perform Vocal-ranged actions.

You’ve been rattled by force or trauma.

  • All d20 rolls suffer disadvantage.
  • You cannot perform Reactions.

You can’t breathe.

  • You are Dying.
  • After 20 seconds, you become heavily Unconscious for up to 10 minutes. This becomes lightly Unconscious after you stop Suffocating.

You’ve been provoked, locked into tunnel vision.

  • You are considered Blinded to all characters except the one who Taunted you.

You are alive, but incapacitated.

  • You are unaware of your surroundings.
  • You cannot perform actions or speak.
  • You drop all held items.
  • You automatically fail saving throws.
  • You are automatically hit, regardless of AC.

Light

Taking any damage wakes you, but leaves you Staggered for 1 round.

Someone within reach can attempt to wake you as a 2 AP action.

Heavy

You cannot wake naturally. Only specific effects, remedies, or conditions will allow you to regain consciousness.

Your stamina is drained.

  • For each level of Weakened you accrue, your AP Recovery Rate is reduced by -1.
  • If negative, you will lose AP each round. If you have no AP to lose, you gain a level of Exhaustion instead.

You are suffering from an illness or injury.

  • For every meter you move using a Mobility action, you lose 2 HP.
  • Hindrance doubles this damage.
