Rest
A moment of calm to prepare yourself for the next storm to come.
Rest allows you and your party to recover—but respite isn’t always guaranteed.
The safety of your environment plays a major role in whether rest goes smoothly. Resting in a town is usually safer than setting up camp in the wilderness.
Your GM may ask for precautions, like keeping watch, to avoid unexpected dangers during rest.
Nourishment #
Depending on your Character Type, you may need nourishment to survive. This sustenance might come in the form of food and water, a fuel source, or a sheltered environment.
Without keeping your basic needs sated, you won’t be able to properly rest and recover. So, be sure to manage your resources throughout your journey.
Different Realms may have different rulings for your needs, depending on the challenge it intends for the party. A realm focused on wilderness survival may require you to hunt and scavenge for food, whereas a sci-fi realm might be more interested in tasking you with upkeeping your ship’s life support systems.
The GM may determine how strictly they want to impose this rule, and the penalties they see fit for neglecting it.
Rest Quality #
Proper Rest #
If your rest is uninterrupted, you gain the benefits of a Proper Rest:
- Restore all HP.
- Reset all features that recover after a Proper Rest.
- Reduce Exhaustion by 1 level.
A Proper Rest typically lasts 8 hours.
Modest Rest #
If your rest is interrupted, brief, or you’ve gone 24 hours without required nourishment, you only gain the benefits of a Modest Rest:
- Restore half of your missing HP, rounded up.
- Features requiring a Proper Rest remain on cooldown.
- Exhaustion is unaffected.
A Modest Rest lasts at least 10 minutes.
No Rest #
If you go 24 hours without required rest, you gain 1 level of Exhaustion.
