Archetype & Discipline

Shape your path through the arts you master and roles you grow into.

In Symphony of Glory, your character’s growth is driven by disciplines. A discipline represents an art, craft, or focus your character is devoted to mastering. These might be combat techniques, occult studies, creative pursuits, or supernatural talents.

Think of them as crafts your character has embraced and hones throughout the campaign, setting you apart from your fellow adventurers.

Unlike traditional RPG classes, you’re never locked into a single path. Each time you level up, you can invest in any discipline you choose. This lets you shape your character’s strengths freely over time.

Disciplines are grouped into archetypes, which represent broad roles with distinct playstyles.

Your level in an archetype is the sum of your levels in its related disciplines.

For example:

  • Culinary Arts and Visual Arts both belong to the Artisan Archetype.
  • If you invest 2 levels into Culinary Arts and 4 into Visual Arts, your Artisan Archetype Level would be 6.

As you advance your disciplines, your related archetype level rises naturally, unlocking thematic traits and magnifying certain features unique to that archetype.

Artisans are dedicated scholars who develop their skill through experience, demonstrating that prowess using a Proficiency die.

Disciplines within the Artisan archetype represent areas of study, such as Visual Arts, Business, and Culinary Arts.

Augmentors alter their physical form into something new, testing their self-restraint with volatile Evolutionary actions.

Disciplines within the Augmentor archetype come with distinct transformations, such as Unbridling, Unhallowing, and Unleashing.

Conscripts swear an Oath to a patron, bound to their decree. With loyalty comes reward—with defiance comes punishment.

Disciplines within the Conscript archetype define various patrons, such as The Divine, The Demon, and The Boss.

Duelists are capable of entering a Stance, enabling them to showcase their techniques and martial prowess.

Disciplines within the Duelist archetype take on various combat styles, such as Berserker, Prowler, and Hunter.

Mystics may Strain their mental fortitude to exert themselves, taking perilous risks for potent rewards.

Disciplines within the Mystic archetype are Arcane in nature, such as Psion, Evoker, and Enchanter.

Nomads travel alongside a Companion—it follows their command and accompanies them wherever it can.

Disciplines within the Nomad archetype bring along various companions, such as Faithful Bond, Kindred Spirit, and Hardware Link.

Each archetype offers a set of passive Traits that shape your overall playstyle.

You automatically gain the Core Trait of an archetype when you invest at least 1 level into it.

Other Archetype Traits can be unlocked as you continue leveling in that archetype, but must be equipped through your focus slots to become active.

Disciplines grant both Traits and Actions as you progress.

Discipline Traits are passive features that you automatically acquire when you reach its required level in a discipline.

Discipline Actions are specialized abilities that become available as you invest in a discipline, but must be equipped through your focus slots to be utilized.
